Integrating SlickText with Kit (Beta)

SlickText’s Kit integration allows you to create subscribers and update subscriber fields in Kit using data you collect through SlickText. You can also create contacts and update contact fields in SlickText using data you collect through Kit. In addition to syncing contact data, this integration allows you to send SMS messages as part of a Kit Visual Automation using SlickText.

Before We Begin

Integrating SlickText and Kit requires you to have an account with both platforms. SlickText has a minimum contact requirement of a mobile phone number with a corresponding opt-in status for compliance purposes, while Kit only requires an email address. In order to sync from SlickText contacts to Kit subscribers, you must first ensure that your contacts in SlickText have both an email address and mobile phone number.

Note:

Since Kit does not have a mobile phone number field by default, installing this integration will automatically create a custom field in Kit called Mobile Phone.

This also means that Kit DOES NOT validate the data entered in the Mobile Phone field. If an invalid phone number or text is entered in the Mobile Phone field in Kit, a contact cannot be created in SlickText.

Connecting your SlickText and Kit Accounts

Before you can sync contacts from SlickText to Kit, you’ll need to give SlickText permission to access your Kit account.

  1. From the Dashboard, click on your name in the bottom left corner and choose Settings
  2. On the Settings page, click on Integrations.
  3. Scroll through the list of integrations and click on Kit.
  4. In the top right corner of the page, click the Install button.
  5. You will be redirected to Kit, where you will log in and be prompted to click Grant access to SlickText.
  6. Once complete, you will be redirected back to SlickText. Click Close, then customize your integration settings.
  7. Click Save to confirm any changes you make to your integration settings.

Syncing Contact Opt-In Status

You must select an opt-in status for new contacts that are being created in SlickText from Kit. This determines whether or not they can receive campaigns, automated, and inbox messages from you.

  • If SMS permission is being collected when a new subscriber is created in Kit, choose Subscribed, which is the default option.
  • If SMS permission is not being collected in Kit, choose Not Subscribed. This allows you to use SlickText's list growth tools like keywords, popups, and web forms to collect SMS permission.

Syncing Subscriber Data from Kit to SlickText

In this section, you’ll select a behavior for when subscriber changes are coming from Kit to SlickText contacts.

  • Create new contacts and update existing ones in SlickText: When a new subscriber with a mobile phone number is created in Kit, a new contact will be created in SlickText. When changes are made to contact fields in Kit, those changes will overwrite the corresponding contacts’ existing data in SlickText.
  • Update existing SlickText contacts only: When changes are made to contact fields in Kit, those changes will overwrite data for corresponding contacts in SlickText. This will only affect Kit contacts with a mobile phone number that matches a SlickText contact. New contacts created in Kit will not automatically be created in SlickText.
  • Don’t do anything: When changes are made in Kit, nothing happens in SlickText.

Note:

When a phone number is added to an existing contact in Kit, SlickText will create a new contact since that contact now meets SlickText’s minimum requirement

Syncing Contact Data from SlickText to Kit

In this section, you’ll select a behavior for when contact changes are coming from SlickText to Kit subscribers.

  • Create new contacts and update existing ones in Kit: When a new contact with an email address is created in SlickText, a new subscriber will be created in Kit. When changes are made to contact fields in SlickText, those changes will overwrite the corresponding subscriber's existing data in Kit.
  • Update existing Kit subscribers only: When changes are made to contact fields in SlickText, those changes will overwrite data for corresponding subscribers in Kit. This will only affect SlickText contacts with an email address that matches a Kit subscriber. New contacts created in SlickText will not be created as subscribers in Kit.
  • Don’t do anything: When changes are made to contact fields in SlickText, nothing happens in Kit.

Note:

When an email address is added to an existing contact in SlickText, Kit will create a new subscriber since that SlickText contact now meets Kit’s minimum requirement

Mapping Contact Fields

Once you have the integration installed, SlickText will automatically map the following fields to Kit if the fields are populated with data in SlickText:

  • Email
  • First Name
  • Mobile Phone Number

If you don’t see a field you need to sync in SlickText:

  1. Open up another browser tab and create a Custom Field.
  2. Go back to your Kit integration settings and click Refresh Fields.
  3. Select the new custom field and the Kit field you want to sync it to.

If you don’t see a field you need to sync in Kit, reference this article from Kit’s Help Center to create additional subscriber fields, or reach out to Kit Support for further assistance.

Note:

When you create new custom fields in SlickText or Kit, you will need to visit the integration settings to set up a new contact field sync rule.

Using SlickText to Send a Message in a Kit Visual Automation

SlickText’s Kit integration also allows you to send text messages as an action in a Kit Visual Automation. To use this feature:

  1. Select a visual automation in Kit you want to send a message in.
  2. While editing the visual automation, click [+] where you want to insert the message as an action.
  3. Select Action, click on SlickText, then choose Send a Text as your action.
  4. In the Message box, draft the message, which can include SlickText merge tags for personalization purposes.
  5. If you want to send a MMS message, add a link to the file attachment in the Media URL box.

Note:

Make sure your sending number is fully registered in SlickText before sending a message through Kit.

Note:

The Kit subscriber must already exist as a SlickText contact with a Subscribed opt-in status. If the subscriber has not been synced to SlickText, or their SlickText opt-in status is not Subscribed, the message will not be sent.

Note:

When using the SlickText Message action, Kit will not indicate how many characters are being used or how many characters are available. Standard message rates and character limits apply, which means your message must contain 918 characters or less to send as a SMS, 402 characters or less if your message contains unicode characters, or 1600 characters or less if sending a MMS message.
