There is no limit to the amount of data you can store about your contacts in SlickText. Out of the box, SlickText provides basic contact fields, such as mobile number, name, address, birth date, and email address. If necessary, you can create additional custom fields to collect or import additional data you need stored for your contacts.
Contact data stored in SlickText allows you to craft targeted and relevant messages for your subscribers. You can create segments based on contact data which will allow you to filter message recipients. Contact data can also be used to personalize messages using merge tags. For example, the tag will insert the contact’s first name into the message. It may also be helpful to have contact data readily available in the SlickText Inbox when a contact texts you. Think through how you can create custom fields to provide a more personal and relevant message to your contacts.
If you’re integrating SlickText with other platforms using our API, Zapier, or a native integration, both basic and custom fields will sync with your other platforms.

Create a Custom Field
Creating a custom field will make that field available for all contacts in your brand.
- Once you’ve logged into SlickText, click on your name and brand at the bottom left of the screen. Then choose Settings.
- On the Settings screen, select Custom Fields.
- To add a new custom field, click the Create Field button.
- Enter the field name, choose a data type, and include a description if you would like.
Choosing the right data type is imperative if you are going to be using segments. The data type you choose will affect which conditions are available when defining a segment. Here’s a brief overview of the four data types:
Data Type |
Use |
Text |
Use this data type if the data does not need to be segmented or filtered as a number, date, or yes/no value. Segment condition examples: Is, Is Not, Contains, Does Not Contain |
Number |
Use this data type if the data needs to be segmented or filtered using numerical values. Segment condition examples: Is, Is Between, Is Greater Than, Is Less Than |
Date |
Use this data type if the data needs to be entered as a date and segmented or filtered by date values. Segment condition examples: Is, Is Before, Is After, Month Is, Year Is |
Yes / No |
Use this data type if the values are either yes or no. Segment condition examples: Is/Is Not (Yes), Is/Is Not (No) |
Edit a Custom Field
Once a field is created, only the name and description of the field can be edited.
- Once you’ve logged into SlickText, click on your name and brand at the bottom left of the screen. Then choose Settings.
- On the Settings screen, select Custom Fields.
- The Custom Fields screen will display all of your current custom fields.
- Use the Search Bar, sort, or scroll to find the custom field you want to edit, then click the Pencil Icon.
- Edit the field name or description.
- Click Save.
Note:
If you need to make additional changes, delete the custom field and recreate it with the new parameters or create an additional custom field. Keep in mind that once a custom field is deleted, the field and all of the data stored for each contact cannot be recovered.
