Every SlickText plan comes with an allotment of message credits. We deduct message credits each time you send a message. One message credit equals one industry standard length SMS message (160 characters in the United States and Canada) sent to one contact. Your campaigns and messages may exceed 160 characters and therefore cost more than one message credit. Sending images, videos, and emojis also cost more than one message credit.
If you do not have enough credits, you will not be able to send messages. This includes campaigns, recurring or scheduled messages, automated workflow messages, and messages sent via the inbox. In the case of campaigns, SlickText will fail the entire campaign, rather than partially send it, and then notify you. SlickText will continue to deliver auto-response messages required for compliance.
SlickText does not charge for inbound text messages. SlickText will not deduct message credits when you receive messages.

Viewing Available Message Credit Balance
You can see your available message credit balance at any time on the dashboard after logging into SlickText.
On the left navigation, hover your mouse over Message Credits:
- Credits Remaining — This is the Total Message Credits Available minus the Message Credits Used.
- Total Message Credits Available — The total number of messages available to you at the beginning of the period. This includes credits purchased as part of a subscription or in bulk. It also includes the total number of rollovers available to you at the beginning of the period.
- Message Credits Used — The total number of message credits used during the period.
- Credits Available — This is the sum of all message credits available in your balance, including standard and rollover credits.
- Estimated Credits Required to Send — This is the estimated number of message credits that will be deducted from your balance. It is an estimate because it’s not always possible to provide an exact number. For example, the number of recipients may change for messages that are scheduled to be sent in the future.
Note:
If you do not have enough credits to send your message, you can upgrade your plan or buy bulk messages.
How Message Credits Are Counted
Each outbound message you send consumes message credits. As you send, SlickText deducts the appropriate number of message credits from your available balance. This includes message campaigns, automated workflow messages, and messages sent from the inbox.
Messages sent to each contact are deducted based on the following criteria:
Message Type | Deduction |
SMS Messages |
1 message credit for the first 160 characters 1 message credit for each block of up to 153 additional characters (The additional 7 characters are used to tell the mobile phone to combine the messages into a single long message.) |
MMS Messages | 3 message credits for up to 1,600 characters |
Inbound Messages | 0 message credits |
How Rollover Messages Work
Rollovers are unused message credits purchased as part of a subscription that are automatically carried forward to a subsequent terms’ available balance. Rollovers expire after after the next term. For example, if you are on a monthly subscription, the rollover credits can be used for one more month.
There is nothing you need to do to use rollovers. After the standard text message available balance has been exhausted, available rollovers will be used automatically.
If you downgrade or cancel your subscription, you will forfeit any accumulated rollovers. Upgrading your account will not affect your rollovers.
