Viewing and Managing Contact Data

A Contact is a person stored in SlickText who you can communicate with. While a mobile phone and number opt-in status are the only data that is required in order to create a contact, there is really no limit to the amount of information you can capture about your contacts. SlickText has been designed to make it as intuitive as possible for you to manage your contacts and the data associated with them, but there are a lot of capabilities available. Learning and employing these capabilities will help you realize much more value from the SlickText platform.

Understanding Opt-in Statuses

All contacts have opt-in statuses, which determines how you can message them. You can select opt-in statuses when you create or import a contact or when updating contact data. These are the opt-in statuses:

Status

Definition

Not Subscribed

Contacts that are not subscribed cannot receive campaigns, workflow messages, or any other type of automated message triggered by you. They can only be texted via the inbox.

Pending Subscription

Contacts that are pending subscription are in the process of double opting-in. They must reply with the word YES before moving to the status of subscribed. They cannot receive campaigns, workflow messages, or any other type of automated message triggered by you. They can only be texted via the inbox.

Subscribed

Contacts that are subscribed can receive any type of text message from you. This includes campaigns, workflow messages, automated messages and inbox texts.

Unsubscribed

Contacts that are unsubscribed can no longer receive campaigns, workflow messages, or any other type of automated message triggered by you. They can still, however, be texted via the inbox. Once unsubscribed, they cannot be set to subscribed manually.

Blocked

Contacts that are blocked cannot interact with you at all. All inbound text messages from them will be ignored and no outbound messages can be sent to them.

Adjusting the Contacts View — Columns and Rows

You can adjust which columns of data to include in your view and their order. You can define how many rows of contact data you want to see on a single page.

By default, SlickText displays basic data about your contacts. To change this:

  1. Once on the Contact screen, click the Adjust Columns button at the bottom of the page.
  2. On the Adjust Columns popup, select which columns to show. Columns with blue check marks will be displayed.
  3. On the Adjust Columns popup, adjust the order of the columns by clicking and dragging  them. Top to bottom corresponds with left to right.
  4. Click anywhere outside the popup. The view will remain this way until you change it again.

Note:

Clicking restore defaults on the Adjust Columns popup will return the column view layout to the original SlickText default view.

By default, SlickText displays 25 rows of Contact data. To change this:

  1. Once on the Contact screen, click the Per Page drop down at the bottom of the contacts.
  2. Select how many contacts you want to see on a page. If you leave the page and come back, it will default to 25 rows again.

Filtering Contacts

Filtering allows you to create a subset of contacts to view.

  1. Once on the Contacts page, click the Filter button at the top of the page.
  2. On the Filter popups page, you can select from one or more of the following available filters:
    • Audience — Select one or more lists or segments to show contacts that match the lists or segments. If you select more than one, contacts who mach any of the selected lists or segments will display.
    • Source — Select Manual Creation, Import, and/or Keyword to show contacts that match how they joined your brand. If you select more than one, contacts who match any of the selected sources will display.
    • Status — Select one or more of the statuses to show contacts that match their subscription status (whether or not you can text them). If you select more than one, contacts that match any of the selected statuses will display.

Note:

Filters work as an “or” in all cases.  If a contact matches any of the selected filter items, the contact will display.

Note:

These are the only filters available in SlickText.  If you need to filter by another element, try creating a segment for that element and filtering that way.

Sorting Contacts

Sorting allows you to define the order in which contacts are displayed on the page. By default, SlickText sorts the contacts by the order in which they were created, with the most recently created contacts at the top. You can change that by sorting contacts:

  1. Once on the Contacts screen, ensure the column you intend to sort by is visible.
  2. Columns that can be sorted have a small up and down arrow icon next to the column header. Click the column header to sort the contacts by that column.
  3. Columns can either be sorted alphabetically, numerically, or chronologically. To reverse the order, click the column header again.

Note:

Columns without arrows cannot be used for sorting.  Try downloading contacts and sorting in your preferred spreadsheet.

Editing and Managing Individual Contacts

You can perform actions for individual contacts, such as editing data, sending a chat message or adjusting their subscription status.

  1. Once on the Contacts page, search,  filter or sort the contacts to make it easy to select a specific contact.
  2. Click on the 3 dots to the right of the contact record to reveal the contact actions menu.
    • Edit — Takes you to the contact for where you can view and edit contact information.
    • Chat — Takes you to the Inbox where you can send an inbox message to the contact.
    • Unsubscribe — Unsubscribe the contact from your brand; they will no longer receive campaign messages.
    • Unsubscribe & Delete — Unsubscribes and then deletes the contact..
    • Delete — Deletes the selected contact.
  3. You can also edit a contact by clicking on the Contact. This will take you to the contact form where you can view and change contact information. Click Save.

Bulk Actions Available for Contacts

You can apply certain actions to more than one contact at the same time.

  1. Once on the Contacts page, filter and sort the contacts to make it easy to select the contacts you want to apply the bulk action to.
  2. Select the contacts individually by checking the box next to the contact. You can select all contacts by checking the box in the header row. SlickText will select all contact in the current view. However, it will give you the opportunity to select all contact that match your filter and apply the action to them.
  3. Click the Actions button at the top of the page and choose the action. The action button is not visible unless you select a contact.
    • Add to Lists — Adds the selected contacts to the lists you choose.
    • Remove from Lists — Removes the selected contacts from the list you choose.
    • Unsubscribe — Unsubscribes the contact from your brand. You won’t be able to text them, but the data is not deleted.
    • Unsubscribe and Delete — Unsubscribes the contact from your brand and deletes the data.
    • Delete — Deletes the contact and all data.
  1. Follow the directions to complete the action.

Note:

Bulk actions are dependent upon user permissions and may not be available for all users.
