Use an Age-Gate to Ensure Your Subscribers are Old Enough

An age-gate is a method to ensure your subscribers meet your age requirement when opting in. SlickText users who sell products or send content that requires subscribers to be over a certain age should enable an age requirement to ensure compliance with their policies and industry regulations.

Age requirements can be set through Brand Settings. Depending on how a contact opts-in, they’ll be asked to confirm their birthdate in one of the following ways:

  • Text to Join  — Subscribers will receive an auto-response text message asking for their birthdate.
  • Manually created contacts  — These contacts will receive an email asking for their birthdate.
  • Web Popups and Landing Pages  — Subscribers will enter their birthdate when they complete the form.

Based on their birthdate, if the person meets your age requirements, they will be created as a contact in SlickText and become a subscriber.

How to Enable Age Requirement

Age verification is a helpful compliance tool we offer that can be set up in just a few simple steps.

  1. Starting from your Dashboard, click Tools from the menu on the left-hand side.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Compliance Messaging.
  3. Scroll to the top of the Compliance page and click the toggle next to the Age Requirement option.
  4. Select your Minimum Age requirement.
  5. If desired, edit your Age Requirement and Age Requirement Ineligible Messages.
  6. Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Note:

Age gating can also serve as a form of double opt-in. If your subscribers reply with their birthdate, SlickText will treat that as an opt-in confirmation.
