Setting up Auto-Responses for Your Sending Number

Auto-reponses allow you to automatically reply with a text message to your subscribers after they’ve texted you in specific situations. In some cases, they are pre-configured, mandatory, and intended to help you remain compliant with the law and carrier regulations. SlickText provides editable suggested content for various auto-responses. For compliance reasons, some auto-responses contain non-editable verbiage.

SlickText’s Automated Workflows capability also provides the ability to automatically message your subscribers, but is not covered in this article. Click here to learn more about how to create workflow sequences to automate some or all of your text messaging program.

Setting up and Editing Auto-Responses to Subscriber Opt-Ins

When people subscribe to receive your text messages, they will receive an opt-in auto-response message. SlickText provides default auto-responses that you can edit, or you can set up a different auto-response message for each list growth tool.

Editing SlickText’s Default Opt-In Auto-Response

  1. Once logged into your brand in SlickText, click on your name and brand at the bottom left of the screen. Choose Settings.
  2. On the Settings screen, select General Settings.
  3. Scroll to Messaging.
  4. Expand each message type and edit the message.
    • Opt-In Message — This will be the message people receive when they subscribe.
    • Double Opt-In Message — If you have double opt-in enabled, this is the message people will receive to confirm their opt-in. Make sure that you tell them to respond with “YES.”
    • Opt-in Exists Message — If someone tries to opt-in after they are already subscribed, they’ll receive this message.
    • Re-Opt-In Message — If someone who previously opted out re-subscribes, they will receive this message.
  5. Click Save

Note:

While you can customize your opt-in message, SlickText will always append required compliance verbiage to each opt-in auto-response. Keep reading to learn more.

Customize Auto-Responses Based On How User Opts In

SlickText provides several tools to help you grow your list of subscribers. With each of these tools, you can customize the auto-response. If a person opts-in using one of these tools, they will receive the auto-response you customized for that tool instead of the default message.

  1. In SlickText, click on Tools in the left navigation bar.
  2. Under Audience Growth, select a tool.
  3. Create and set up the tool following the appropriate instructions. The following tools have customizable auto-response messages.
  4. Edit the Auto-Response message.

Note:

While QR Codes and Tap-to-Join links are list growth tools, they do not have customizable auto-responses. These tools are enablers for other list growth tools. For example, a QR code can use either a keyword opt-in or a webform opt-in and their corresponding auto-responses.

Understanding Non-Editable Compliance Auto-Response Messaging

While compliance is ultimately your responsibility, SlickText provides tools to help you remain compliant with applicable law and carrier regulations. This includes non-editable auto-responses to a customer opt-out or “help” message and content that is automatically appended to all opt-in auto-responses. Here’s how to view compliance messaging:

  1. Once you’ve logged into SlickText, click on your name and brand at the bottom left of the screen. Choose Settings.
  2. On the Settings screen, select Compliance.
  3. Scroll to Compliance Messaging.
  4. Expand each message type to view the message.
    • Pre-Opt-In Compliance Statement  — This is not a text message, but is content that is intended to use wherever you advertise your opt-in.
    • Opt-In Compliance Statement  — This is appended to all of your opt-in auto-responses.
    • Opt-Out Message  — This message is sent whenever a subscriber opts out via text message.
    • Help Message  — This message is sent whenever a subscriber texts, “help.”

Using Auto-Responses in Your SlickText Inbox

  2. On the Settings screen, select Inbox.
  3. Select General Inbox Settings.
